Background
- Temporal cartographic animation is a mature field
- Animations deal with communicating; historical events or other spatio-temporal phenomena
- Idea is to communicate a history of event(s)
- Animations rarely portray this history at any given time of the animation
- Most commonly animations portray the current event at that given time (i.e. non-temporal)
- However they do it in sequence so it becomes a history
Idea
Explore and discover new types of animations that portray:
- Temporal dimension
- Past events (i.e. the ones already seen)
- Future events (i.e. the ones not seen) - should probably only indicate the values briefly
- Both past and future events at the same time.
- Visual dimension (ideas)
- Choropleth "bar"
- "Progress indicator/bar" with the colour of the progress bar relative to the colour of the events that happened at that time.
- Retained pie-charts
- Displaying pie-charts that happened/about to happen at a subtle way
- Could be cluttered - need to overcome this
- Choropleth "bar"
- Interactivity
- Pop-up historical view when hovering over concepts (i.e. star-layout of pie-charts, choropleth bar etc)
- Parallel coordinates, time-graph etc.
